The Wizards' Guild

"The Wizards' Guild is for the more subtle people of the disc. We achieve dominance (without fail) by use of the quickness of our thoughts and the judicious application of some of the myriad spells at our disposal. And, unlike an uncouth barbarian warrior, if the situation demands violence, we don't endanger ourselves by taking part in the fray, we blow the bastards up from a distance."
The Discworld Website Wizards Page.

Obviously, they seem to have a fairly high opinion of themselves. In truth, the Wizard's Guild is more a group of lazy men (and more recently women) who sit around setting eyeballs on fire and doing horrid things with carrots and rabbits. But, to each their own.

The Wizard's Guild has many guild houses in different cities, including Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork, Generation Hex in Sto Lat, the bookstore in Bes Pelargic, the Illusionary Institute of Learning in Djelibeybi, and a Creel Springs Wizards' Guild in Creel Springs. In addition to having many different places to train as a wizard, they also have several Orders which you can join once you reach guild level 50, and also the choice to become a hedge wizard (not tied to any particular faculty) with its own Order equivalents.

Abilities

The Wizards' Guild has primaries in the magic skill tree, although what these specifically are depends on the Order you choose. Their abilities are in the form of magic spells, which can be remembered from books or scrolls and forgotten on a whim. There are several Wizard-only commands that all Wizards get from their guild once they advance their skills to a certain point. These are:

You will not get these right away, however; you must find the right NPC to teach you. These are:

Titles

The Wizards earn titles by their level – the higher the level, the grander and more regal titles they are allowed to use. You must find an NPC that can allow you to use new titles before you can place them on your name.

Thanks to Mystery and Saaur for title research.

In addition to titles, members of Orders also get order levels, from being a First Level to Eighth Level Wizard. (note that this does not apply to Hedge Wizards) The first few levels are earned via the Wizard's Guild Level, in leaps of 20 Guild Levels at a time. At Guild Level 40 he will be level 1, at Guild Level 60 he will be level 2, and so on until his Fourth level at Guild Level 100.

Beyond this, the Fifth to Eighth levels are earned via the Wizard's player rating in relation to other Wizards of the Order, making this somewhat slow going in the more popular Orders. But then, they have to drop off eventually, perhaps even with a little assistance. Additionally, the only wizards who are Eighth level are those who are part of the Djelian Orders - in order to become an eighth level wizard in any of the standard orders, you have to be voted senior.
